Chronic Migraine is a condition faced by many individuals who undergo 8 or more migraine days each month and experience some form of headache at a minimum of 15 days each month. Each episode can last for a duration of 4-72 hours.

WARNING SYMPTOMS OF CHRONIC MIGRAINE

Migraine sufferers often experience a set of warning signs, known as an “aura,” which can include tingling, blind spots, light flashes, or even symptoms that mimic those of a seizure or stroke. Another type, called “late-life migraine accompaniment,” often doesn’t have headache as a primary symptom, but can present as a transient neurological episode. Migraines with brainstem aura can cause slurred speech, double vision, tinnitus, vertigo, and loss of consciousness. The staff at our Kansas City migraine treatment office is familiar with the various categories of migraines and can provide the best care for your case.

GENETICS & ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS PLAY A ROLE IN MIGRAINE

Migraines have several possible causes, but it is commonly believed that these episodes result from a combination of environmental and genetic factors. Changes in the trigeminal nerve and brainstem are thought to be involved in initiating migraines. These changes may cause the release of certain neuropeptides which can result in the pain associated with migraines. Additionally, neurotransmitters like CGRP and serotonin may also play a role in pain production and other symptoms associated with migraines.

WE DISCOVER THE ROOT CAUSES OF YOUR MIGRAINE

At Sharlin Health & Neurology, we use a functional medicine approach to treating migraines that focuses on identifying the root cause of the condition. Our approach is grounded in a scientific framework called “systems biology,” which includes the Functional Medicine Operating System. This system is used to uncover the underlying reasons for the development of migraines and incorporates the Functional Medicine Timeline and Matrix, and Therapeutic Lifestyle Factors. This features 7 main nodes: Integrity, Energy, Transport, Biotransformation & Elimination, Assimilation, and Defense & Repair, Communication. By employing this model, our brain health specialists can identify cellular imbalances and help patients make personalized changes to correct them. We not only offer migraine treatment at our clinic in Kansas City but also cluster and tension headache relief. Contact us today for more information or to book an appointment!

This will be explained when you schedule a telephone consultation.
