Exist
In my book, The Healthy Brain Toolbox which has helped thousands of people preserve and protect their brains, tool number four is BE. What does it mean?
Do you know scientists have discovered using mindfulness-based meditation can, believe it or now, help a person grow their brain? The fact is, it helps them grow the part of the brain that improves memory. Therefore, if you want to preserve and protect your brain, you have to focus on being.
Reclaim the present. Embrace what’s in front of you and make it yours—that is being.
Worry is about things that haven’t actually ever happened. Whereas, feelings of despair or depression are often about the things that have happened in the past.
With our lives filled with busyness and stress, it can be hard to take a moment for ourselves. But carving out just a few minutes each day to focus on the present can make all the difference.
It can be as simple as starting off small. Why not try taking some deep breaths? 4-5 seconds in, then 4-5 seconds back out twice per day. An exercise like this will help you stay healthy mentally and physically while carrying through your daily struggles at work or home.
Understandably, you will be filled with thoughts about your responsibilities and obligations, which takes up most of the day. But these short periods, 5-10 minutes a day, or twice a day can have a huge effect on your brain for the entirety of the 24-hour period.
You and I are mostly alike.
We all strive to get the most out of each day, no matter what we are doing. Whether you’re a business owner helping those around you reach their full potential, a teacher molding the minds of the next generation, or even if it’s just putting in hard work in a factory. Surely when the sun comes up each morning and you start your day, there are lots of goals you have set to get through by nightfall. It’s easy to be overwhelmed with all that may potentially benefit other people.
I want to help other people. I have a business and I want to share this information with you.
So we’re a lot alike. When I wake up in the morning before I start checking my cell phone, turn on the tv, or listen to the news, I take 10 minutes and just do some breathing, some quiet in and out breathing. I don’t think about what I need to do for the day. I don’t think about what happened yesterday.
You too can take a few minutes to de-stress and refocus your energy. Visualize yourself in the perfect calming environment. Maybe it’s sitting on an idyllic beach, letting each wave wash away any stress or worries you might have. Whatever works for you is what you can do.
Unwind twice daily with five or ten-minute sessions of peaceful meditation and breathing – take some time for yourself to reset your calmness levels.
This will help you stay calm and focused throughout your busy day. It will improve your productivity. It will improve your creativity and will help you grow your brain so in years to come, you can protect your brain against devastating conditions like Alzheimer’s disease.
