Read on if you want to learn more about how we are redefining neurological care in our community.

Have you been “vaporized”?

We all want patient-centered care. Most of us are too accustomed to going to the doctor if we can get an appointment at all, and then when we get in, we will get a 5-15 minute new patient evaluation. By the end of it, a diagnosis is made, but then somehow, magically, you as a person kind of vaporized.

This means, by then, the doctor was too often focused on treating the disease. You, as a person, are left wondering:

“Hey, I’m here. What about me?”

“How did this happen to me?”

“I don’t just want a drug. I want someone to help me solve my problem.”

That problem might be a disease, but we have to focus on the person and why they got the disease.

Our IDENTIFY Pillar is important because we have to not only get correctly diagnosed, but we have to understand sort of how these different diseases, tend to behave, and present, and what is typically the long-term outcome with these diseases.

Function at Your Best

At Sharlin Health and Neurology, we focus on functional medicine. We tell our patients the operative word here is function

We have to aim for you to want to function at your best, and not always through

  1. Go home.
  2. Take a pill.
  3. I’ll see you in six months.

This is where we get into the INVESTIGATE Pillar.

A friend of mine, Dr. Dale Bredesen, said, “Alzheimer’s disease causes are like a roof with 36 holes.” This is because the causes of Alzheimer’s disease are different for different people. If I were sitting in a room with three people and all three of us had Alzheimer’s disease, each of us would have a different set of causes. Some might overlap, but in the end, it’s not one simple cause.

We too often tend to oversimplify. In medicine, even if you read articles aiming to discover THE cause of Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s Disease. Those we discover are probably a contributing cause, not to dismiss good science, but it’s not THE ONLY cause.

A Functional Approach to Neurology

Our Brain Tuneup Program has helped thousands of people today.

We investigate all the factors that contributed to the problem in the first place.

So how does it work?

Just to review, we’re going to spend a lot of time with you because we have to understand your unique story. We need to understand the factors that may have triggered the condition in the first place and the things that are keeping you on this trajectory.

The Brain Tuneup Labs are a deep-dive set of labs unique to our clinic. This gets into what encompasses disease drivers like

  • Inflammation
  • Oxidative stress
  • Genetics
  • Lipid chemistry
  • Hormones
  • Trace minerals
  • Toxins

All of these are vital.

If you go to a natural doctor and they say, “Well, all of this is caused by toxin exposure,” that’s probably an oversimplification. There are toxins everywhere in the world. We have to try to get rid of them, but we need to look at the whole problem. If we only try to do one thing at a time, it might seem more logical or possible. But we will never achieve our goal that way.

Getting the Full Picture

This is where not only is it important to investigate the root causes, but to have a team that helps you to integrate those pieces together. Often I hear folks with Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, MS (Myasthenia Gravis), or ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) say, “I know how to eat,” “I know my diet,” or “I know what to do.” Maybe that’s true. Maybe it’s not.

When we’re talking about our Integrate Pillar, we’re talking about working with my team, a unique set of experts, and it’s not just me. I am the ‘captain of the ship,” but I have a functional nutritionist, a health coach, and a director of neuro fitness who is going to take a personal interest in you and teach you movement as medicine.

We are going to sit down and talk about your story. We will talk about the things that are causing your problem. Then we will make a plan that is only for you, a unique patient-centered plan. If someone else had the same problem, their plan would be different.

This is so much in contrast to traditional medicine, where if you had five people with Alzheimer’s disease, they would all get the same drug, which doesn’t make any sense.

Everyone is unique. You are unique. Your plan should be unique.

The Healthy Brain Toolbox and a Team Behind your Back

I’ve written a self-help book, and it was a number one Amazon bestseller. I encourage you to read it.

But, if it were as simple as reading a book to fix yourself, we would have much fewer Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, ALS, and MS cases, don’t you think?

When we hear some people say. “Well, I know what to do,” but if the person is sick, the questions to ask are

  1. How is that serving you? Be honest with yourself.
  2. Is your approach working?
  3. Without the Brain Tune-Up Labs, how do you know what it is your body actually needs?

It is helpful to have a team behind you. This team will help you be successful. If you have a problem, the team will work with you to fix it. Our team has helped many other people before, and we can help you too.

If you have a diagnosis and you’ve been told to plan the rest of your life around this diagnosis, or if you don’t know what’s going on and no one’s been able to tell you because no one is taking the time and the interest to learn about you and to really understand what’s going on, utilizing the most cutting-edge technology, if these things happened to you, it’s not going to happen here at Sharlin Health and Neurology.
